Language Survey

We do not want to start translation projects where they are not needed, nor do we want to fail to start them where they are needed. To make these choices well, we need information. That's what language surveyors do; they gather and present the information we need.

Language survey is essential to understanding what work needs to be done in which language groups. Survey involves the two-fold task of language assessment and the formulation of strategies in cooperation with church partners. Survey endeavours to answer vital questions such as:

Which dialect is the most accepted?

How well do people understand the other languages around them?

What are the relevant church partnerships?

What strategy should be developed with those partners?

Surely, you might think, someone must already have this information. But in fact, there is a continuing need for accurate information.
